"Shawshank Redemption"
This assignment was part of a Graphic Design 1 module, where the brief was to design a conceptual book cover based on a chosen literary work. I selected Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King and focused on the theme of injustice. The goal was to use visual storytelling and Gestalt principles to communicate a deeper message. My final design replaces traditional scales of justice with a cracked hourglass, suspended from a post like a hanging scale, symbolizing how injustice is slow, painful, and often endured over time. The shattered glass pieces falling beneath suggest broken time and hope. The color palette—red and black—reinforces the emotional tone of power, suffering, and oppression. The typography (PenUltimateLight Italic) adds a subtle twist, mimicking legal typefaces but skewed to reflect distorted justice. The minimalist layout and strong symbolic imagery were intended to provoke thought while keeping the message visually striking and open to interpretation.
